Unit 8: Discussion

Unit 8: Discussion

Q For the discussion: Do you think gun violence should be treated as a public health concern (like we do diseases)? Basically we're asking you to agree or disagree with the video and state why. If you bring in additional facts, please cite your sources. What are the biggest obstacles to tackling gun violence? What are some myths that may be driving the gun debate off-course? Are there other things that contribute to injury or death (not guns) that we could use as a reference for improving the public's health? Again, cite any information that comes from anywhere outside of your own brain. Note: This is NOT a place to debate gun ownership rights, etc. Keep the discussion focused on health and accident/injury threats to health. If the discussion veers completely away from guns, that's okay.

I do think that gun violence should be treated as a public health concern. I do agree with Megan Ranney's approach of public health concern that she has discussed in this video because this is so ingrained in the society, that we can reduce it only when we mutually come together and work towards eradication by following the three things (TEDx Talks, 2019). The three things that she has explained here as first we need to learn the facts about how many people dying because of gun violence, second share one’s stories and take action by joining the movement where we talk more about the causes, prevention, and factors related to the gun violence (TEDx Talks, 2019).
